Challenge For Children
Right now, children in our community need us. Each one of of us. With one in five children living in poverty and thousands of students dropping out of school each year in our community, it is clear that Inland Empire kids need our help. The statistics are daunting:
- There are 40% fewer college graduates in the Inland Empire than the statewide average.
- The Inland Empire ranks second in the nation with a 31% increase in poverty since 2007.
- One out of every three families in our communities are living below the self-sufficiency standard.
A Challenge to Improve the Lives of Disadvantaged Children.
To address the great needs of children in our community, Inland Empire United Way (IEUW) has teamed up with the Ontario Reign's Hope Reigns Foundation (HRF) to host the 2012 Challenge for Children Winter Benefit. All proceeds from this tremendous event will benefit a variety of programs that help low income children in the Inland Empire. Through initiatives like IEUW's Kids Pack, School Tools, and Mentor Connection and HRF's education and sports programs, we are able to see results: improved academic performance; increased likelihood to attend college; improved health; a reduction in negative behaviors among our youth; and ultimately more children reaching future self-sufficiency. In 2011, over 50,000 low-income children will benefit from the work of Inland Empire United Way and Hope Reigns Foundation in our local communities.
