About Us | Lives We’ve Changed

Words from a grateful mom regarding the Kids Pack program:

“I tried my best to keep food in the house everyday and I just couldn’t do it. Now, I don’t have to worry that my daughter is hungry. Thank you so much.”

The reaction of an underprivileged boy when given a backpack of food to take home over the weekend:

"Wow! You really spent a lot of money on me!”

An observation from a director working with students at a local school district:

“Students are excited about the Kids Pack program. I am able to see positive differences in student performance throughout the day.”

A comment about hunger from a child attending an after-school program in a low-income neighborhood:

“Sometimes my mom sends a lunch for me, but sometimes we just don’t have the money. We are hungry and just have to wait to eat.” (This child is now benefiting from the Kids Cafe program.)

A benefit of 2-1-1 stated by a community volunteer and human resources manager:

“Those of us who are concerned about finding assistance for people who need help will no longer be led down an endless trail of phone numbers and bad information. With 2-1-1, we will find the referrals we need with just one call.”

A mother’s reaction to her child coming home with a kit from School Tools:

“I am a single parent and at the beginning of each school year, I am overwhelmed with the stress of trying to come up with enough money to pay for school supplies for both of my children. We usually can’t afford everything on the teacher’s list. My kids are embarrassed because they have to borrow supplies from their friends. This year will be different. I don’t know who is more grateful—me or my kids!

A local teacher’s reaction to the new School Tools program:

“With budget cuts, the schools just don’t have the supplies they used to have—even basics like glue, paper, paint and scissors. It is frustrating to be monitored so closely that the entire class has to share one glue stick. I can see that School Tools will help students be able to do class projects that incorporate fun and creativity into learning.”
