Volunteers to help refurbish school
Fontana (October 4, 2007) - Volunteers will gather
Saturday to refurbish North Tamarind Elementary School as part
of Hands On Schools, a national program that aims to reestablish
schools as focal points of communities.
Thanks to a $3 million grant from founding sponsor Home Depot,
North Tamarind Elementary is one of 100 schools chosen to
receive financial and volunteer assistance and demonstrate that
communities can bring about positive change in their schools, a
news release said Tuesday.
Inland Empire United Way's Hands On Initiative will lead 250
volunteers from Home Depot, the school and surrounding community
as they paint murals throughout the campus, landscape school
grounds, paint new play and learning spaces and set up the
school's new library.
North Tamarind Elementary School, one of 29 elementary
schools in the Fontana Unified School District, is a
single-track school with about 573 students from preschool
through the sixth grade.
Volunteers are still needed. Register at
