From the ground up

Fontana (October 6, 2007) - First, volunteers built a park for the students at North Tamarind Elementary School during NASCAR festivities. Today, volunteers can help refurbish the school itself.

Inland Empire United Way's Hands On initiative will lead a team of 250 volunteers from Home Depot, the school and the surrounding community in painting vibrant murals throughout the campus, landscaping school grounds and setting up the school's new library. The work will start at 8:30 a.m. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be at 2 p.m.

North Tamarind, at 7961 Tamarind Ave., is one of 100 schools across the country that will be served by the $3 million Challenge grant from Home Depot.

Registration is required. Volunteers must sign up at www.HandsOnlandEmpire.org.
