Festive side of safety

A children’s safety and protection festival held April 10 at The Shoppes at Chino Hills introduced children and their parents to groups that offered information on topics ranging from healthy lifestyles to emergency preparedness.

Children were attracted to hula hoops and prizes at the Chino Valley YMCA display where Healthy Lifestyles Director Kasey Powderly and her husband, Jim Powderly, encouraged active family lifestyles with the Y’s Ready Set Go program.

The Inland Empire United Way hosted a “Live United” booth and selected five coloring contest winners for $75 in school supplies. The organization explained the 2-1-1 system, in which live operators on a 24-hour basis refer callers seeking information on shelter, food, health and dental care, clothing, counseling, and crisis services.
