Hands On Inland Empire announces 'Find It. Do It. Share It. contest - Inland Empire residents who share their inspiring volunteer stories will be entered to win a trip to Disneyland

Inland Empire, CA (August 27, 2007) – Inland Empire United Way’s Hands On Inland Empire initiative, in partnership with CaliforniaVolunteers and The Walt Disney Company, announce the launch of the ‘Find It. Do It. Share It.’ contest. Californians of any age can visit www.CaliforniaVolunteers.org and share a personal inspiring volunteer story for a chance to win a trip for four to Disneyland.

“The ‘Find It. Do It. Share It.’ contest is a showcase for one of the state’s greatest resources – the people who strengthen California by connecting with their communities through service,” said California First Lady Maria Shriver, honorary chair of CaliforniaVolunteers. “The contest not only honors these great volunteers who so unselfishly give back to their communities, but it also inspires others to make a difference in their own meaningful way through volunteering.”

Hands On Inland Empire is encouraging people to join the contest to highlight stories that reflect the diversity of volunteer opportunities throughout the state and show how people of all backgrounds and interests have found their own unique ways of giving back.

Whether it’s serving food in a kitchen line, teaching kids to read, serving on an arts council, planting a school garden, or keeping hospital patients company when they need it the most, any type of volunteer service positively impacts the community. The ‘Find It. Do It. Share It.’ contest is one of many ways Hands On Inland Empire is working with CaliforniaVolunteers to raise the profile of volunteerism in the state and increase the number of Californians investing in their communities through volunteering.

“The ‘Find It. Do It. Share It.’ Contest is a great way for local volunteers to share their experiences as a way to inspire others both locally and throughout
California to get engaged in service,” said Robin Kelley, Hands On Inland Empire Director, Inland Empire United Way. “Hands On Inland Empire, along with CaliforniaVolunteers, encourages people to find a service opportunity that matches their interests, do something to help make a difference and share their experience to inspire others. Volunteers in the Inland Empire can find projects that fit their interests at www.HandsOnInlandEmpire.org.”

To enter the ‘Find It. Do It. Share It.’ contest, Californians of all ages can submit a written, audio or video recorded entry telling their own inspiring volunteer story, whether it happened 30 years ago or just last week. All entries will be judged based on originality, creativity and relevance to the contest theme. Two Grand Prize Winners will receive a vacation for four at Disneyland; an opportunity to participate in a volunteer project with Disney VoluntEARS on National Family Volunteer day on November 17; and a trip for two to attend the Governor and First Lady’s Conference on Women in Long Beach on October 23, where the winners will be publicly announced. Twenty seven local finalists from throughout the state will also each receive one set of four Disneyland Park Hopper passes.

Entries must be submitted before September 23 either online at www.CaliforniaVolunteers.org or mail to: CaliforniaVolunteers ‘Find It. Do It. Share It.’ contest / 1110 K Street, Suite 210 / Sacramento, CA 95814. Only California residents are eligible.
