BoardLinks - free training for people wanting to
serve on a nonprofit board of directors
Rancho Cucamonga, CA (November 8, 2007) – Inland Empire
United Way will be hosting BoardLinks, a free training for
management-level employees wanting to serve on a nonprofit board
of directors. This training will be from 6 – 9 p.m. on
Wednesday, November 28 at Inland Empire United Way (9624 Hermosa
Avenue, Rancho Cucamonga, CA 91730)
BoardLinks partners with local companies and corporations to
recruit and train talented management-level and above
individuals who are interested in serving as a board member but
perhaps do not know which agency is the best fit for their
interests and talents.
Additionally, BoardLinks works with nonprofit agencies by
enabling them to identify strengths and weaknesses, gaps and
overlaps in their board composition. Training empowers potential
board candidates to become contributing members to a nonprofit
board and to understand the legal responsibilities of board
oversight.
Once an agency board snapshot is obtained, BoardLinks
consultants work with agency staff to identify potential factors
which would enhance the capacity of the board overall. Factors
such as vocation and expertise, geographic location, age, gender
and racial/ethnic identification combine to create the ideal
balance of the ideal board of directors to sustain the mission
of the organization.
Once training is completed, the BoardLinks service then assists
the volunteer in their search for a leadership position that
matches their mission-interest. By facilitating the connection
between these newly trained leaders and opportunities in the
community, BoardLinks increase the pool of skilled and
enthusiastic candidates, broaden the diversity on local boards,
cultivate community networks, enhance corporate social
responsibility and ultimately strengthen the nonprofit
organization’s capacity to serve our communities.
