Read to Kids! program continues - Community members are needed to volunteer!

Fontana, CA (January 7, 2008) – Imagine a Saturday morning in which instead of sleeping late or watching television, kids are surrounded by fun, enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers. As the children are read to with their friends and classmates, they become captivated by the books and develop a passion for reading.

Volunteers are needed to Read to Kids! at Virginia Primrose Elementary School in Fontana, from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, January 12 with a reading theme of Around the World (Travel). The reading club also includes a craft that pertains to the theme of each month!

Some of books that will be read this month:

  • Throw Your Tooth on the Roof: Tooth Traditions From Around the World by Selby Beeler (Kindergarten)
  • How to Make an Apple Pie and See the World by Marjorie Priceman (3rd Grade)
  • Around the World in 80 Days by Jules Verne (5th Grade)

Registration is required! Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age. Sign up online at www.HandsOnInlandEmpire.org to volunteer. The program will continue on the second Saturday of every month – where more than 50 volunteers are needed each time! An estimated 100 children participate in the reading club.

Read to Kids! is a Hands On Inland Empire project dedicated to inspiring children from underserved communities and motivating them to read, thereby enriching their lives and providing opportunities for their future success.
